Telehealth Visits

Virtual specialist visits

For situations where it may be difficult or undesirable to come into our office for a physical visit, we offer virtual appointments.  This allows us to continue providing you with specialist care from your own home.  When scheduling your appointment, your kidney specialist and you will decide if this is a good way to conduct your appointment.

Virtual visits could include either an appointment by phone or a videoconferencing appointment.

For videoconferencing, we use the Doxy.me platform.  For more information on using Doxy.me, visit the Doxy.me patient information page

For more information regarding the use of virtual health, including information about how we can work together to protect your privacy and confidentiality, please visit the Virtual Health Patient Information Page

Getting ready for your TeleHealth visit

Tips to have a great videoconference appointment

What you will need:

  • A Computer, or charged smartphone/tablet
  • Internet connection.  Please make sure this is a good connection or the call quality will be poor.  Wired connections may work better than wireless connections
  • Private space for conversation
  • You do not need to download any programs or apps to have your videoconference appointment
  • If you have ever made a video call with Skype, FaceTime, or Google Duo then you are ready to go!

Getting ready for your appointment:

  • Please review the connection tips in the image below as well as the Doxy.me patient information page
  • On the day of your appointment please connect a few minutes before the scheduled start time. The call will remain in the ‘waiting room’ until the doctor is free to start the appointment.

By having a virtual appointment you are committing to the following:

  • To not share your meeting invite or information on social media
  • if you are inviting someone to attend the meeting with you, it should be someone you don't mind sharing your health information with like direct family members or caregivers
  • Do not record your conversation with your care provider
  • Introduce yourself to your care provider by name, and mention if there is anyone else attending the meeting in person or joining by Zoom
